GLOBALIZATION

The new form of invasion

Garlan Archista Duarsa

In the last decades of the last century, the term of Globalization has stormed the world. In general, this term means that the world is no longer consist of many different parts which was traditionally called it as nations. The border of the nations is fading away. As a consequence the influence of one country to another is getting more and more.

Together with the development of the information technology, it is really is the world nowadays is becoming one. Things happens in one corner of the world will spread very quickly to the other end of the world. The news of the riots in Myanmar, for example, was spread to the world almost in the same time of its occurrence. It was as if, it happens at our own backyard. Hence, it is correct if people say that our age today is the age of information.

Like or dislike later or sooner, it seems that we all have to accept this phenomena. This fast change of the world’s condition, of course, gives so many impacts. Some of them are even beyond our imagination. The urge of a means of communication is inevitable. Today’s world needs a language that we can use to communicate each other internationally. Since English has been used widely in the past as an international language, one can easily take English as an international language for the future.

This means that, one who can master English will have a better chance to surf the world. A better chance to explore the world. English in fact, gives so many opportunities for us to build our future.

As an impact of globalization, international traffic is now getting more and more increase. There will be so many occasion that we will meet people from overseas. There will be so many chances that we can work together with our overseas counterpart in the future. Whatever we do, where ever we are, and at any under circumstances, as long as we communicate with people who Indonesian are not their mother tongue, we will use English as a means of communication. And once again, English will play a very important rule in this sort of interaction.

Before I continue, there is an ecology theory that once two or more ecosystems work together, the more established ecosystem will take control and influence the other ecosystem. For example, river ecosystem and rice field ecosystem. River which is formed hundred years before the rice field is form, we call as the more established ecosystem, will control the ecosystem of rice field. If the river water debit decreases, it will disturb the rice field ecosystem. Drought will happen and endanger the rice field’s ecosystem. And it goes the reverse order when the river water is enough.

If we take this ecology theory to the social and economic theory, it will be the same. That’s why we believe that globalization will hamper the developing countries. They will be influenced by other developed countries in many aspects of life. Culture for example has been explained by the usage of English all around the globe as an international language. This condition forces us to master English and in some parts more than our national language. If don’t do so, we’ll be left behind in the spread of information and opportunities to get good jobs with good salary.

In economics, it is started with a joke when the world signed the Washington Consensus to apply Free Trade all around the world. They argued that this is for the better world, so that the distribution of products will be much easier and could secure the availability of goods in all countries. The real purpose is that the developed countries want to increase their wealth by controlling the developing. Imaging how could the small industries possibly compete with large companies or MNC’s. Our first president has already warned us that in the future the form of invasion is not using troops but using economical influences, which he calls, “NEOCOLIM”, Neo Colonialism and Imperialism. Globalization is the newest form of invasion.

We could not beg for mercy. These giants will always crush us, unless we strive for the same goal, the glory of our nation. Let us hand in hand, to study together, to work harder for the brighter future. To the glory of our beloved country, INDONESIA.

Hello world!
